Italian MP says coop. with Iran, ‘priority for Rome’

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) – Italy’s President of the Foreigner and European affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies Marta Grande said that cooperation with Iran in the West Asia is certainly one of the priorities of the Italian government.

She made the above remark on Fri. in a meeting with visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Seyed Abbas Araghchi and expressed her deep concern over the situation of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) after the US pullout from this important deal.

She added, “Europe is eagerly determined to continue cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran within the framework of JCPOA.”

Turning to the trend of implementation of a financial mechanism proposed by EU dubbed ‘Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)’ with the aim of facilitating financial transactions between Iran and Europe, she said that Europe is mulling over all aspects of this mechanism in order to solve relevant problems.

For his part, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi emphasized that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has thus far confirmed Iran’s compliance with nuclear deal for 13th time and said, “US government unilaterally exit JCPOA with no reason.”

He went on to say that JCPOA is not just a bilateral deal inked between Iran and the United States and/or 5+1 Group, rather, it is an international deal that indicates determination of the UN Security Council (UNSC).

In his one-day trip to Italian capital Rome, Araghchi also met with the Italian Foreign Ministry Secretary General, President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate and the Vatican Foreign Minister and expounded on the latest status of JCPOA and situation of Iran for cooperation with Europe and Italy.
